As you are aware, the Affordable care Act was signed into law in March of 2010 with multiple effective dates on or before April 1, 2010. Corrections to the 2010 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule were implemented at the same time, with an effective date retroactive to January 1, 2010.
As a result, many Medicare Fee-for-Service claims will be reprocessed beginning in the next several weeks. The amount of time needed to reprocess the claims will depend on the claim type, volume, and Medicare claims administration contractor.
Claim adjustments need not be requested, as they will be reprocessed automatically. In cases where the claim contains services amounting to charges lower than the revised 2010 fee schedule amount, the claim cannot be automatically reprocessed at the higher rate. In these cases a manual adjustment must be requested.
